The South Africa System Dynamics (SASD) Chapter aims to promote the interchange of learning, research and scholarship in the use of system dynamics in understanding and managing complex real world problems facing
South Africa and Africa as a whole. The SASD Chapter, in collaboration with Eskom, is organising the country’s 4th Annual System Dynamics Conference (ASDC4) themed Facilitating Just Transitions, which will be held in the picturesque capital of the South African wine lands – Stellenbosch – about half an hour outside of Cape Town.
South Africa has experienced a difficult socio-political-economic transition, and still does, in the face of the many challenges that are characteristic of a developing society. The extreme poor live, ironically, in one of the most carbon-intensive economies, which is based on a “mineral complex”. Thus, one finds the fundamental socio-economic problems of inequality, unemployment, chronic diseases, drug addiction, crime and resource exploitation that remain intact in a democratic space that has made possible countless innovations and changes across multiple other spectrums. The 4th Annual System Dynamics Conference in South Africa invites extended abstracts that entail a diversity of domains, disciplines and stakeholders.
The conference has been registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa for Continuous Professional Development points.
